A Board Game to Play on a Video Call
Sequence with the video call built in: one link, everyone on camera, and the board between you.
Play Sequence NowGame night when you can't be in the same room
Most video call games mean one window for the call and another for the game, and someone sharing their screen. Here the call sits beside the board. You see everyone's face while you play, react when someone blocks your sequence, and plan with your partner out loud.
It's a good fit for holidays with family in different cities, long-distance couples, grandparents and grandkids, friends who moved away and remote teams looking for something better than another icebreaker.
Start a video game night in a minute
- Open play-sequence.com on a computer and choose Play with friends (or Challenge a friend for just two of you).
- Leave Video call on and create the room.
- Send the link to your group chat, text or email. Nobody needs an account or an app.
- When the first friend arrives, the call starts and everyone's screen rings. Say hello, pick teams and play.
Up to five people can be on camera at once. Larger groups can still play, up to 12 in teams of 2 or 3.
Why Sequence works on a call
- Easy to explain: play a card, place a chip, make five in a row. The game enforces the rules, so nobody has to referee. New players can read how to play in two minutes.
- Teams make people talk: two or three teams, with partners hinting and groaning together.
- Quick turns: a game with friends takes about 15 minutes, and a rematch is one click, with the call carried over.
- Mixed ages: kids, parents and grandparents can all play at the same table.
Questions
What is a good board game to play over a video call?
Sequence works well because everyone sees the same board, turns are quick, and teams give people a reason to talk. Here the video call is built into the game, so you don't juggle a separate meeting app and a game in two windows.
Do we need Zoom, FaceTime or another app?
No. The video call is part of the game page. Everyone opens the same link in a browser and joins the call from the table. If your group is already on another call, that works too: just mute one of them.
How many people can be on the video call?
Up to five people on camera at once, and 2 to 12 players in the game. Bigger groups can play in teams, with the rest using chat or joining by phone.
Does the video call work on phones?
Video calls are on computers for now (laptop or desktop, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari). Phones can play in the same game and use the chat.
Is it free?
Yes. The game, the video call and the chat are free for everyone, with no account and nothing to download.
